A device which automatically steps one at a time through a group of keys which are held down (or latched). The keys may be stepped through in ascending order, descending order, or both; or, more rarely, in the order in which they are pressed. Unlike a sequencer, however, an arpeggiator can not repeat any key within an arpeggio or cause two keys to sound simultaneously.
